The
Head of Department General for Human Rights Protection in the Criminal Justice
and Armed Forces of the Office of the Human Rights Defender Mr. Hrant Jilavyan
and the Head of the Unit for Protection of Rights of Military Servicemen and
Members of their Family Mr. Andranik Yeghoyan held a working meeting with Mr. Tigran
Karapetyan, Head of Transversal Challenges and Multilateral Projects Task Force
at Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, and Ms. Narine Gasparyan the National
Coordinator of “Human Rights and Women in the Armed Forces” project.
During
the meeting, the sides referred to several issues related to the capacity building
of the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia.
In
particular, issues aimed at raising the level of objectivity and reliability of
reports prepared within the framework of fact-finding activities of the Office
of the Defender during the post-conflict period, and which are presented to
international platforms.
The
parties to the meeting also discussed the issue of finding systemic solutions
to the problems in the protection of the human rights of servicemen in the
Armed Forces through the study and analysis of international best practice
Concluding
the meeting, the sides agreed to take necessary steps in the directions outlined
by them.
