The Human Rights Defender of Armenia Mr. Arman Tatoyan
hosted today the UNDP Resident Representative to Armenia Ms. Natia
Natsvlishvili.
The Defender highly valued the cooperation with the
UN, in particular with UNICEF, UNFPA, UNHCR, and other structures. The Defender
also praised the effectiveness of the programs of the UN.
During the meeting, the work priorities of the two
institutions, the activities of the states in certain sectors, and in
particular the reform process of the Police, issues related to deprivation of
liberty, the protection of the constitutional rights of the people, and the
role of the Human Rights Defender in these issues were discussed.
A specific reference was made to the urgency of the
need of the return of the Armenian captives who are still unlawfully kept by
the Azerbaijani authorities, and to the issue of the artificial protraction of
their return.
Mr. Arman Tatoyan stressed that the fact of the
violations of the rights of the border residents of Armenia, which are taking
place as a result of the unlawful acts of the Azerbaijani armed servicemen and
their deployment in the immediate vicinity of our villages.
