Immediately after the recent Azerbaijani armed
attacks, the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia is conducting an
analysis of the videos of captured Armenian servicemen, is translating them
from Azerbaijani and is identifying the captured servicemen.
As of this moment, the Office is in possession of 21
videos, 6 pictures.
The Office is in contact with the family members of
the Armenian servicemen that are held in captivity.
After the completion of our activities, the mentioned
materials will be properly examined and will be sent to both international and
Armenian organizations as reliable evidence for use in the issue of the return
of our compatriots in captivity.
According to the position of the Human Rights
Defender, the fact that a serviceman or a civilian is being held captive should
be recorded from the moment when, for example, a video reveals that they are
under the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces or the authorities. The
failure to do this does not absolve them of responsibility. There have been
many cases when the fact of captivity was confirmed by video evidence, but the
Azerbaijani authorities denied it.
