Each one of us should
make our best efforts to give our children a better country, where the best
interest of the child would be at the basis of every decision.
November 20 is World Children’s
Day; therefore, it is another opportunity to raise the issues that children
face.
We will succeed only when
we create a dignified inclusive environment designed to the child's needs,
discover the child's abilities, teach independent living skills, and when we
listen to and respect the child's opinion. Along this fundamental path, the
parents, the state, and the society should cooperate.
Children in child care
and protection institutions and special schools also have the need of our daily
attention. We have a bigger responsibility towards them, guaranteeing for them
a secure and a prosperous life.
I have always noted that
a better environment for a child then their family to live in and to be raised
does not exist. Therefore, family needs assessment and state support should be
targeted and continuous. A child who has returned to their home from an
institution should feel that they have the support of the state.
The COVID-19 pandemic,
the 2020 Artsakh War, the shootings and the tensions in the border communities
of our country have a negative and painful effect on our children (displace
children, children whose education has been interrupted, etc.), while the
elimination of the consequences requires further actions. The Office of the
Human Rights Defender of Armenia has also conducted work in this direction.
By guaranteeing the
rights of children, we create a stronger, and an inclusive society which has
high values.
Mr. Arman Tatoyan
The Human Rights Defender
of Armenia
