The Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan, and the
Head of Office of the UN Population Fund in Armenia Ms. Tsovinar Harutyunyan,
accompanied by the Head of community of Kapan Mr. Gevorg Parsyan, visited
Syunik village of Kapan (and Kapan municipality).
The aim of the visit to the village, which has faced
security and social issues since the end of the war, was to listen to the
residents, and to discuss issues related to the employment of youth and women,
the development of their economic capacities, the encouragement of social
entrepreneurship, and the involvement of the elderly, and other issues were
discussed.
The residents have raised a variety of issues; from
security to environmental problems. In particular, the residents noted that due
to the border processes after the war, they were deprived of the opportunity to
use the land, while the presence of Azerbaijani military servicemen in the
immediate vicinity of the village and civilian houses put them in front of
serious security issues.
Ms. Tsovinar Harutyunyan presented the work of the
already successful women's resource centers in Goris, Meghri and Kapan
communities of Syunik province with the support of the UN Population Fund, the examples
of which have spread to other provinces of Armenia. With the help of the
resource centers, women get a profession, get a job, and get involved in
various programs.
The Head of Kapan community Mr. Gevorg Parsyan
presented at the meeting the steps taken by the municipality in connection with
the improvement of the village infrastructure, and the programs, implemented
within their competence, which are aimed at the social assistance of the
people.
The Defender and the Head of Office the UN Population
Fund in Armenia discussed with the residents their needs, the opportunities
available to improve them, and the issues related to the employment of women
were specifically emphasized. The importance of cooperation with the head of
the community and office of the municipality was emphasized as well.
The results of the visit will be summarized, and based
on the nature of the raised issues, steps will be undertaken to find solutions
to them.
