Youth and healthy
lifestyle, development of women's economic capacities, promotion of social
entrepreneurship, involvement of the elderly, demographic, humanitarian, human
rights and many other issues were discussed during the meeting with the head of
community of Kapan Mr. Gevorg Parsyan, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia Mr.
Arman Tatoyan and the Head of Office of the UNFPA Armenia Ms. Tsovinar
Harutyunyan.
It was noted at the meeting
that during the visit special emphasis will be placed on the security and
social issues emerged after the war, which are related to the border processes.
Highlighting the importance of the development of women's economic capacities,
the Human Rights Defender presented the implemented programs to the head of
community, which contributed to women's independent income, which in its turn
had a positive impact on improving the social status of their families. The
programs implemented with the UN Population Fund were mentioned and their role
in the field of protection of human rights in the country was highly praised.
Ms. Tsovinar Harutyunyan,
presented the programs implemented by the Fund, which relate to the fund’s four
main areas of work: reproductive and maternal health, youth, increase in the
role of women and capacity building, and demography.
The health and healthy
lifestyle of young people has been emphasized. The event held with the support
of the UN Population Fund on the International Youth Day, which will be held in
Kapan, the youth capital of Armenia, was mentioned during the meeting.
Paying special attention
to the development of the capabilities of women, Ms. T. Harutyunyan presented
the work of the already successful women’s’ resource centers in Meghri, Goris,
and Kapan communities of Syunik province which were established with their
assistance, and whose example has been spread to the other provinces of
Armenia. With the assistance of the Resource centers, women are trained,
receive professional skills, find jobs, participate in social entrepreneurship,
and receive other assistance.
A number of demographic
issues were also discussed; the main issues and the work conducted were
pinpointed.
Mr. Gevorg Parsyan
highlighted the importance of the visit, and expressed their readiness to
support the development initiatives targeting the residents of the community.
Mr. Arman Tatoyan and Ms. Tsovinar Harutyunyan highly praised
the readiness of the Head of the community of Kapan and the Office of the
Municipality to jointly implement the mentioned initiatives.
After the meeting, a joint visit took place to Syunik
community to hold meetings with the residents.
