On July 6, the Human Rights
Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan participated in the annual journalism award ceremony
organized by the Eurasia Partnership Foundation on the topic of tolerance of
religious and national minorities.
During the award ceremony,
the opening speeches were delivered by the Ambassador of the Netherlands to
Armenia H.E. Mr. Nico Schermers, the Chief Executive Officer of the Eurasia
Partnership Foundation Mr. George Ter-Gabrielyan, the Human Rights Defender Mr.
Arman Tatoyan.
"Solidarity is the
guarantee of the development of any society, one of the essential elements of
which is respect for religions and national minorities. The lack of information
on these issues generates stereotypes, which lead to intolerance, and even
manifestations of extremism.
One of the possible ways to
eliminate such vicious phenomena is journalistic coverage of these topics. It
is necessary to continuously provide people with accurate information on issues
related to religious and national minorities through professional journalistic
work. Journalistic work on these delicate and sensitive issues should only be
encouraged," the Human Rights Defender said at the award ceremony.
At the award ceremony, The
Human Rights Program Director of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation Isabella
Sargsyan said that the aim of the competition is to promote a balanced, and sensitive
journalistic coverage of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and diversity in
Armenia, which will contribute to the development of a tolerant and respectful
attitude of the society towards minority communities.
The award ceremony has been
held since 2015.
