Freedom
House international human rights organization shares the concerns of the Human
Rights Defender of Armenia over the violent rhetoric and hate speech used by
Armenian politicians during the pre-election campaign.
According
to Freedom House, this contributes to toxic polarization and the spread of hate
speech, all the while Armenia is still recovering from the war in
Nagorno-Karabakh and preparing for historic parliamentary elections.
The
Human Rights Defender once again calls on all parties to refrain from violent
rhetoric and hate speech. Elections themselves are an integral part of the
democratic process and they should aim to restore solidarity and rule of law in
the country.
