Today, the Human Rights Defender
of Armenia Mr. Arman Tatoyan met with the President of the Republic Mr. Armen
Sargsyan.
The President and Human Rights Defender discussed the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani
border.
Mr. Arman Tatoyan presented the results of fact-finding activities of
the Office Human Rights Defender in the Gegharkunik and Syunik regions to the
President of the Republic, emphasizing that the illegal presence of the
Azerbaijani servicemen in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia is
a clear violation of the rights of the entire population and especially those
of the border residents. In particular, he noted, that the implementation of
the concept of the security zone along all parts of the border with Azerbaijan,
especially around Syunik and Gegharkunik, will create a real opportunity for
the protection of the rights and the security of the citizens.
The President and Human Rights Defender emphasized the importance of
taking the active steps to protect the security and the rights of the
population of Armenia by the relevant state bodies. They also emphasized the active
work with international partners to prevent the illegal acts the of Azerbaijani
armed forces and to prevent further manifestations of such actions in the
future.
