On
April 27, the Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan received Baroness
Caroline Cox, Member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Ireland.
The
Defender thanked the Baroness for raising the issue of the inhumane treatment
of the Armenian prisoners of war, and the use of banned weapons by Azerbaijan,
in front of the representative of the British Government, during a question and
answer session in the Parliament of Great Britain.
During
the meeting, Mr. Arman Tatoyan presented evidence on the fact that Armenophobia
and the killings of Armenians are encouraged by the highest authorities of
Azerbaijan.
Mr.
Arman Tatoyan noted that the "exhibition-park" Baku related to the
September-November war of 2020 an evidence of the state-sponsored genocidal
policy Azerbaijan.
The
Defender drew attention to the fact that the mannequins of the Armenian
soldiers in the park are specially presented in a humiliated state, and the
park is open even for minor children.
The
Defender specifically referenced about the urgency of the return of Armenian
captives held in Azerbaijan, noting that the conduct of the Azerbaijani
authorities grossly violates international requirements for the protection of
the rights of the captives by portraying prisoners as "terrorists" or
"saboteurs."
The
Defender noted, that all the Armenian servicemen and civilians were captured by
the Azerbaijani armed forces during the armed conflict, therefore they are all
captives, and must be released immediately and returned to their homeland
without any political or other preconditions.
The
Azerbaijani authorities are artificially protracting and politicizing the
process, grossly violating the rights of the captives and their families and
causing them suffering, and triggering tension in the society.
The
Baroness Caroline Cox highly appreciated the work of the Human Rights Defender.
The
participants of the meeting expressed their readiness to expand the direction
of their cooperation.
