Yesterday,
the working group headed by the Human Rights Defender visited Gegharkunik
region. The Defender held meetings with the commander of the relevant military
unit, and held discussions with the Governer of Gegherkunik region, as well as
the community heads of Geghamasar community.
Meetings
and discussions were held in Sotk, Kut, Norapak, and other villages.
The
residents of the villages which became border communities after the war
revealed their real concerns which are related to the rights to life, to
security, to physical and mental immunity, to property and other vital rights,
including the impossibility to work in agriculture and raise cattle.
A
separate meeting was held with the management of “Geopromining Gold” Company,
which operates the Sotk gold mine, during which issues related to both the
business sector and the guarantee of labor rights were discussed.
All
the results of this visit will be summarized and letters will be sent to state
administration bodies. Necessary inquiries will be made and clarifications will
be demanded.
