Today, the Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman
Tatoyan, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania
to Armenia Mr. Inga Stanite-Tolochkiene.
The meeting focused on the gross violations of
human rights committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces during the war,
including the atrocities committed against military servicemen and civilians.
The Human rights Defender stressed that the
targeting of the peaceful civilians of Artsakh and the use of prohibited
weapons against them, the involvement of terrorist mercenaries, the
Armenophobia and the widespread atrocities and inhuman treatment and cruelty,
testify about the Azerbaijani policy of ethnic cleansing through terroristic
methods; a policy that is continuing even today.
The Defender informed the
Ambassador that Azerbaijani authorities are artificially delaying the process of the exchange of
the Armenian captives, captured before, during and after the war, and the
bodies of the victims.
“By doing this, it is the intention of
Azerbaijan to deliberately create an atmosphere of uncertainty and tension in
the Armenian society, to disrupt the mental immunity of the society, and to
cause mental suffering to the families of dead servicemen, the missing and the captives.
All this is part of a policy of Armenophobia in Azerbaijan” stated Arman
Tatoyan.
In the current situation the Defender
considers the release of the captives, their safe return to home, and the
exchange of the bodies an issue that requires an urgent solution.
During the meeting,
the parties also discussed other issues related to human rights protection, and
reached agreements on new areas of cooperation on human rights issues.
