Today the Human Rights
Defender of Armenia Mr. Arman Tatoyan met with the President of the Republic Mr.
Armen Sargsyan
The meeting was focused
on the destiny of the Armenian military captives and civilians held hostage by
Azerbaijan and the steps taken to ensure their return.
The Human Rights Defender
informed about the activities carried out by his office, and about the
discussions held with the international partners.
The President noted that the
primary responsibility and duty of the Armenian and Artsakh authorities,
especially that of the relevant bodies, is to take all measures and to use all relations
to ensure the return of our captive compatriots who are subjected to atrocities
and inhumane treatment by the enemy, and to determine the fate of those
missing.
The President noted that
after the trilateral declaration of the ceasefire, he repeatedly raised the
issue of unconditional observance of humanitarian law and immediate return of the
captives before international partners. He stressed that he will continue to
make all the necessary efforts in that direction, and to use all his
opportunities.
Arman Tatoyan stated
that, he called on the international community, especially to the organizations
that have a mandate to protect human rights, to support in the solution of the
issue through taking urgent steps.
A hope was expressed
during the meeting, that the issue of the Armenian military captives and the
civilians held hostage will be solved soon, and they would return to their homeland.
