December
3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Persons
with disabilities are full members of our society. Ensuring respect for them, a
dignified life and an inclusive environment should be among the main priorities
of our state. Ensuring their rights is not a manifestation of the goodwill of a
state or an official, but a direct obligation. Respect and dignified treatment towards
persons with disabilities should be the basis of all interrelations between the
state and public.
The
dignity of persons with disabilities should be respected and their potential
should be assessed, regardless of whether they are children, young people or
elderly.
Unfortunately,
this war increased the number of our compatriots with disabilities. This, in
turn, made the imperative to ensure a rapid response to their needs, including
care services, social support, and reintegration into society even more
relevant and urgent.
The
Human Rights Defender, as an independent monitoring body of the UN Convention "On
the Rights of Persons with Disabilities", will continue to exercise its
powers to guarantee the rights of our compatriots that have disabilities.
