On
November 20, World Children's Day, the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan
visited “SOS Children's Villages” Armenian Charity Foundation in Kotayk region,
where currently children transferred from institutions of Stepanakert,
Kashatagh and Berdzor live.
The
Human Rights Defender got acquainted with the organization of child care, that
is based on supporting the educational, psychological, social, health and other
needs of children.
With
the Director of “SOS Children's Villages” Armenian Charity Foundation “Kotayk”
branch and the Director of children’s institution of Artsakh, the Defender
walked around the shelters located in the territory of the institution and met
the children.
The
children informed the Defender that they attend the community school, while
pre-school education was organized in the institution.
The
Human Rights Defender highlighted the work of the foundation with regard to providing
assistance to children both from Armenia and Artsakh, emphasizing that the best
interest of the child should always be a primary consideration in the matters
related to children.
The
Defender once again noted that during the hostilities initiated by Azerbaijan
since September 27, 2020, we had witnessed gross violations of children's
rights, as well as an improper and disproportionate reaction from the
international community in that regard. The elimination of child’s rights clear
violations and effective measures aimed at excluding such violations taken by
both domestic authorities and international community, especially by child’s
rights organizations, are more important than abstract and declarative calls.
It should be noted that
the Human Rights Defender of Armenia caries out monitoring of the
implementation of the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child,
as well as protection of child’s rights and prevention of violations.
