On November 8, the
Human Rights Defender hosted a delegation headed by Baroness Caroline Cox,
which included the Deputy Director of HART charitable organization of the
Baroness and two journalists.
The Defender
presented the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the
Azerbaijani armed forces against the peaceful population of Armenia and Artsakh
that are based on the fact-finding activities of the Human Rights Defender of
Armenia and the Human Rights Ombudsman of Artsakh.
Mr. Arman Tatoyan
presented the details on the killings and injuries of civilians in Gegharkunik
and Syunik provinces of Armenia and the material damage caused to the villages by
the Azerbaijani armed forces.
“The military
attacks by the Azerbaijani armed forces are accompanied by widespread hate
speech against the ethnic Armenians on the Internet. The hatred in Azerbaijan
is of such systemic nature that it ended up in a closed chain, starting from
the authorities and concluding with cultural figures, earning public praise each
time. Also, during these days, everything is done to incite hatred,” stated the
Human Rights Defender, concluding that the goal of the Azerbaijani side is to
carry out ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Artsakh through terroristic methods
and committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The delegation was
provided by concrete evidence on the atrocities of the Azerbaijani side,
including the consequences of the use of incendiary ammunition of mass
destruction (incendiary weapon) containing chemical elements (possibly white
phosphorus) against Artsakh that is published in the joint report of the Human
Rights Defender of Armenia and the Human Rights Ombudsman of Artsakh.
Baroness Caroline Cox expressed gratitude for
the detailed presentation of the situation in Artsakh and Armenia and her wish
to visit Artsakh when possible in order to record the real situation on the
ground. The Human Rights Defender expressed his readiness to personally accompany
the delegation in case of authorization.
