An officer of the Armenian Armed Forces
applied for the Human Rights Defender’s support in reviewing the amount of
compensation paid for the rented apartment.
The applicant informed that his family
of four lives in a region on the basis of a rent, for which he received
compensation from the RA Ministry of Defense in the amount of 33.000 AMD. The
applicant also informed, that he had applied for a recalculation of the
compensation aimed at receiving it in a new amount as prescribed by the Government
decision, but was rejected.
It is noteworthy that at the Human Rights
Defender’s recommendation the amount of compensation for an apartment rent was
increased in 2018 and it was envisaged to provide the compensation in the
amount of 50,000 AMD to the beneficiary families consisting of 4 or more people
residing in other cities.
The Human Rights Defender's Office has
initiated an investigation procedure on the issue and recommended the Ministry
of Defense to recalculate the amount of compensation for the rent of the
officer’s family.
As
a result, the amount of the compensation for the apartment rented by the
officer has been recalculated, and it is already equal to 50,000 AMD.
The
Human Rights Defender emphasizes the importance of protection of the social
rights of servicemen and their families, as well as the ongoing cooperation
with the Ministry of Defense in this field.
