Dear
compatriots,
Our
country is in a responsible period with regard to the spread and prevention of Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The
Human Rights Defender attentively follows the entire process from the outset when
the first case of Coronavirus infection in our country was diagnosed.
At this
point, it is necessary to highlight the following important issues:
1. firstly,
it is necessary to strictly follow all the prevention rules of this disease, including
to demonstrate a high level of social responsibility, follow all hygiene rules and
required social distancing. Attending mass events and crowded places,
especially in closed places, should be avoided;
2. one
should disregard unverified and false information. Those materials that are not
based on official sources should be ignored and not disseminated;
3. it is
necessary to rely exclusively on relevant official websites and official pages of
social networks, as well as on official communications;
4. one
should avoid social media discussions based on information from fake Facebook
accounts or discussions initiated by such accounts. There is a dissemination of
false information on social media, which is completely condemnable;
5. we
should demonstrate high level of civic awareness in this responsible period. We
should respect and not insult one another.
6. it is
impermissible to target anyone’s personal or family life. I urge to stop degrading
discussions and insulting speeches towards the woman diagnosed with Coronavirus
infection in Ejmiatsin;
7. in
this responsible period it is extremely important to refrain from publishing
personal data. Information that may identify infected persons or those
suspected of having the virus should not be published. We should keep in mind
that through publication and identification of information containing medical
confidentiality we target the private and family life of a person;
8. I urge
the media and the journalists to demonstrate high professionalism and not to
spread unverified and false information regardless of political, personal or
any other factors. To remind, such materials mislead our compatriots and cause
tension;
9. our
medical personnel does heroic work which is invaluable and worthy of high
esteem;
10. we
have been engaged in the processes and discussions taking place in our country concerning
the issues that fall under the mandate of the Human Rights Defender (from child’s
rights, the organization of classes in educational institutions to the rights
of persons in the places of deprivation of liberty). I have been in constant
contact with the competent bodies and services from the first moment when a
case of virus was recorded. Respective focal point are designated at our Office
in this regards:
11. today
I had necessary discussions with our competent partners, National Assembly
deputies, and with the mayor of Ejmiatsin Diana Gasparyan. There is a specific situation
in Ejmiatsin and the issues of our compatriots from Ejmiatsin are under primary
attention;
12. I wish speedy recovery to all our
compatriots diagnosed with Coronavirus disease.
