The
agreement reached in 2025 during the meeting between the Human Rights Defender
of the Republic of Armenia and young people from Lori Province at the Children
of Armenia Fund (COAF) SMART Center has now yielded practical results.
Within
the framework of the masterclass held on April 19 of the previous year, the
young participants presented to the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, the rights-related issues existing in their
communities. The Defender expressed her commitment to addressing the issues by
involving young people in raising them before the competent authorities.
One
of the participants raised the issue of the conditions of the medical and
obstetric center (MOC) in the village of Marts, Lori Province, noting that it
operates in a hut built in 2000 and lacks basic utilities, as well as necessary
medical equipment and furnishings. Moreover, due to the limited space, patients
were forced to wait outside, including in adverse weather conditions.
The
issue raised was discussed with the Office of the Governor of Lori Province.
As a
result of the discussion, the Governor’s Office informed that the MOC will
henceforth operate on the first floor of the community administrative building,
in a renovated area. The renovation was carried out by the Armenian Red Cross
Society. The new premises measure 41 sq meters and are equipped with water
supply, electricity and sewage systems.
The
information received was transferred to the person who applied to the Human
Rights Defender, who confirmed the above-mentioned facts and thanked the Human
Rights Defender’s Office for the work carried out.
It
should be emphasized that, despite the positive outcome recorded in this
individual case, systemic issues persist and require comprehensive solutions.
Other
rights-related issues raised by the young participants remain in the focus of
the Human Rights Defender's attention.
