On April 8, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
hosted students of No. 192 school named after Gevorg Vardanyan of Yerevan
within the framework of the Student Councils Capacity Building Program of the
"Jinishyan" Memorial Foundation.
Anahit Manasyan presented to the students the mission of
the Defender, the scope of powers, directions and priorities of work, spoke
about issues related to the protection of human rights, bullying, hate speech,
intolerance and discrimination.
"I attach great importance to such meetings, because
it is an opportunity to hear from the children the issues that concern them and
to personally present the work carried out by the Human Rights Defender in the
direction of the protection of children's rights," stated the Defender,
greeting the children.
Representatives of the Defender also participated in the
meeting. During the meeting held in Q&A format, the students had the
opportunity to raise their concerns. Various issues related to the protection
of children's rights were discussed: manifestations of violence against
children, the right to education, the right to be heard and freely express an
opinion, etc.
The children were presented with the powers of the
Defender in the field of protection of children's rights, the activities of the
public council on the rights of children and young people adjunct to the
Defender. In this context, Anahit Manasyan also spoke about the visit to
Geneva, the United Nations Organization, in which the children of the council
also participated. The Defender stated that their role in the visit was key, as
the children themselves spoke about various issues related to the field.
Within the framework of the meeting, issues related to
the mission and goals of the student councils were discussed, the leading
experience of different countries was referred to.
The Defender expressed her gratitude to the students for
the interesting conversation and noted that they are always welcome in the
Defender's Office.
