Today,
on July 14, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan participated in the
event themed "Making Armenia stronger: Women, peace and security in
Armenia".
In
her speech, Ms. Anahit Manasyan referred to the steps taken in Armenia aimed at
protecting and promoting women's rights. She emphasized the importance of
overcoming various stereotypes for the successful implementation of the
process. In this context, the Defender mentioned the necessity of implementing
serious works in the field of education, as stereotypical thinking is formed
from school years.
Ms.
Manasyan also referred to the issue of participation in various processes of
women living in the provinces. The Defender noted that during her visits to the
provinces, she usually holds various discussions with women, adding that the
Public Council on Women's Rights adjunct to the Human Rights Defender also
plays a significant role.
The
Defender also presented the activities implemented in the direction of
protection and promotion of the rights of women belonging to national
minorities living in Armenia. She noted that public council on the rights of
national minorities adjunct to the Human Rights Defender will be established
soon, as a result of which the possibilities of overcoming the mentioned issues
will increase.
“I
will personally work with the women of the communities of ethnic minorities"
emphasized the Defender.
The
Defender also referred about the promotion of women's involvement in the
decision-making process, emphasizing that women's involvement is important not
only at the middle management level, but also at the decision-making level.
The
event themed "Making Armenia stronger: Women, peace and security in
Armenia" is held within the framework of the program financed by the
Delegation of the European Union to Armenia. It is implemented by Democracy
Today non-governmental organization, and is aimed at taking steps to improve
the implementation of the second national action plan of the UN Security
Council Resolution № 1325 “Women, Peace and Security". The two-day event
is held on July 14-15.
