The Human Rights Defender of Armenia Ms. Anahit Manasyan is
participating in the 15th International Conference of Ombuds Institutions for
the Armed Forces themed “Governing the Impacts of Climate Change- Ombuds
Institutions and the Armed Forces”, which is taking place on June 18-19, in
Vienna, Austria.
The Conference is organized by the Geneva Center for Security
Sector Governance (DCAF) in cooperation with the Parliamentary Federal Armed
Forces Commission, with the participation of human rights institutions from
more than 50 countries.
The purpose of the conference is to contribute to the
guaranteeing of the protection of human rights in the armed forces, to promote
the exchange of best practices in the security sector, as well as to increase
the level of awareness. Within the context of the Conference, it is envisaged
to clarify future policies of ombudsman institutions aimed at the protection of
human rights in the security sector in the context of climate change, mental
health, and the shifting geopolitical situation.
The opening speeches of the Conference were made by Wolfgang
Sobotka, President of the National Council of Austria Mr.Robert Laimer,
Executive Chairman of the Austrian Parliamentary Commission for the Federal
Armed Forces, Member of the National Council of Austria, Ms. Klaudia Tanner,
Federal Minister of Defence of Austria, and Ambassador Nathalie Chuard, the
Director of The Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance.
