In
response to media inquiries, we hereby inform that on 3 February, immediately
after the publication of a video by a journalist, an examination was initiated
at the Human Rights Defender’s Office upon the instruction of the Human Rights
Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan.
On
the same day, an official communication was submitted to the Prosecutor
General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia, requesting the initiation of
criminal proceedings where legally warranted and the provision of a
criminal-law assessment of the individual’s actions.
The
Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan has repeatedly emphasized that any
manifestation of violence is strictly unacceptable and condemnable. Each such
case must be subjected to an appropriate legal assessment, and the perpetrators
must be held accountable. In this regard, the State bears legal obligations.
The
Human Rights Defender considers it essential to ensure the conduct of a prompt,
objective, and comprehensive investigation into such cases, as well as the provision of information to
the public in this regard.
It is
necessary to emphasize that all analogous cases remain under the continuous and
direct attention, and within the scope of the Defender’s mandate, all necessary
measures are being undertaken.
