On December 23, at the initiative of the Human Rights
Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, a training course was
organized on the issues of human trafficking or labor exploitation, including
child trafficking or exploitation.
Representatives of the mass media, the Public Defender's
Office, as well as the staff of the Human Rights Defender's Office participated
in the training.
Opening remarks were delivered by the Human Rights
Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, and the Director of
the Armenian Office of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian
Law Ms. Laura Milne (online).
In her speech, Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasized that
comprehensive, accurate and responsible coverage of the problems in the field
of human trafficking and labor exploitation, raising public awareness, proper
protection of rights and effective implementation of preventive measures are
possible only through the professional engagement of all actors, continuous
capacity-building and continuous, systematic and constructive cooperation with
representatives of the mass media. The Defender particularly highlighted the
key role of the media not only in revealing the problems in the field, but also
in the process of forming a public agenda aimed at overcoming them and
strengthening the culture of human rights protection.
Ms. Zhanna Hakobyan, Director of the Centre for Research,
Expertise, and Education of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, presented the
current problems and challenges in the field. National expert Mr. Sergey
Ghazinyan referred the specifics of human trafficking or labor exploitation,
forced labor, child trafficking or exploitation, as well as the legislative
amendments in the field.
During the training, participants had the opportunity to
address questions of interest to the trainers, share observations, and
participate in active and substantive discussions.
The training session was organized at the initiative of
the Human Rights Defender, with the support of the Yerevan Office of the Raoul
Wallenberg Institute.
