On
November 17, within the framework of her working visit to Lori region, Human
Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan visited the
office of the “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities” NGO and met with the
organization’s beneficiaries.
During
the meeting, the Defender emphasized the importance of protecting and promoting
the rights of persons with disabilities, emphasizing that it is one of the
priority areas of her activity. Ms.
Anahit Manasyan expressed her gratitude to the NGO President, Ms. Anush
Aslanyan, for organizing the meeting, as well as for consistently raising
sectoral issues: “There are numerous and multilayered problems in this field,
and such constructive discussions are essential for overcoming existing
challenges and ensuring the continuous development of the system.”
During
the meeting, the stakeholders, inter alia, raised a number of issues related to
ensuring accessibility of the physical environment for persons with
disabilities, issues related to using the services of the Public Defender, the
elimination of discrimination, and a number of other issues.
The
Defender noted that in this area it is necessary to implement targeted, systemic
and continuous state policy aimed at ensuring independent, safe and dignified
living conditions for persons with disabilities.
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan reaffirmed her commitment and willingness to continue working
actively toward the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with
disabilities and the development of an inclusive society.
