The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Ms.
Anahit Manasyan’s working visit to Lori Province has started.
On November 17, on the occasion of International
Students’ Day, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan visited Vanadzor
State University named after Hovhannes Tumanyan to meet with students and
congratulate them on their day.
In her message, the Defender stated in particular:
“Dear students,
This day is an opportunity to once again highlight the
fundamental importance of education, the crucial role of young people in the
sustainable development of society, as well as the protection of their rights
in the context of ensuring a dignified, safe, and inclusive educational
environment.”
During the meeting, Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented the
main challenges in the field of human rights protection in the modern world,
highlighting the politicization of human rights and societal polarization as
serious threats to the effective functioning of the system:
“Tolerance has a
cornerstone significance in building a democratic, violence-free and
discrimination-free society. Meanwhile, social polarization undermines the
values underlying a legal and democratic state, distorts the perception of
human rights and jeopardizes the effectiveness of the entire system of rights
protection.”
Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasized that overcoming the
mentioned problems is of key importance in establishing a proper system of
human rights protection.
Within the framework of the discussion, the Defender
answered the students’ questions, presented the main mechanisms for the
protection of human rights, and underscored the importance of tolerance,
equality, justice, and guaranteeing the human dignity as the highest
constitutional value.
At the end of the meeting, the Human Rights Defender
urged the students to view the challenges they encounter in life as
opportunities for growth, and to perceive the educational process not merely as
a way of learning individual ideas, but as an opportunity to internalize and
promote values, while remaining committed to the principles of professional
ethics and professionalism.
Accompanied by Acting Rector Mr. Armen Tsaturyan, the
Defender also toured the University, got acquainted with the building
conditions, the educational process, and the working environment.
