On
August 28, a publication with the unclear and inaccurate headline “The staff of
the Defender is being evicted from 56 Pushkin Street” was circulated in the
mass media.
In
order to avoid misunderstandings among the public regarding the location of the
Human Rights Defender’s institution, we consider it necessary to note that the
Human Rights Defender’s Office of the Republic of Armenia continues to fully
carry out its activities at 56A Pushkin Street, Yerevan.
At
the same time, it should be recalled that on November 15, 2024, the Government
adopted a resolution “On the Repossession and Consolidation of Real Estate” in
accordance with which the real estate located at 5 Moskovyan Street, Yerevan,
is to be allocated to the Human Rights Defender’s Office of the Republic of
Armenia.
This
information has been published on the Defender’s official website.
The
mentioned Government decision is a very important and first step in resolving
the problem - existing for more than a decade - of ensuring the necessary
building conditions for the normal activities of the Human Rights Defender’s
Office, which has been repeatedly raised by Human Rights Defenders. In this
context, the Human Rights Defender also emphasizes that the preparatory process
for the operation of the allocated building, including its renovation, be
carried out within the shortest possible time frame.
