The
Defender emphasizes that it is necessary to take serious steps to eliminate any
manifestation of discrimination against people with mental health problems.
In
order to achieve the above-mentioned goal, it is necessary to take urgent
measures to eliminate stereotypes, prejudices and discriminatory discourse in society
regarding mental health.
In
this context, the Defender considers it highly condemnable to target a
secondary school teacher from Merdzavan village, Parakar community, Armavir
region, through the use of such speech, as well as to prepare and disseminate
materials for that purpose. Such manifestations of behavior lead to the entrenchment
of already existing deep-rooted stereotypes towards persons with disabilities,
which is unacceptable.
At
the same time, the Human Rights Defender once again considers the preparation
and dissemination of materials targeting the children involved in the
aforementioned incident—accompanied by significant violations of domestic and
international standards on the protection of their personal data—as unacceptable
and highly condemnable.
The
Defender urges not to disseminate the above-mentioned materials, and the
competent authorities to take the necessary measures to ensure the mentioned
rights.
