On
May 6, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, received the first graduates of the Human Rights Winter School.
The
Winter School was organized at the initiative of the Human Rights Defender of
the Republic of Armenia in cooperation with the UNDP Armenia Office. 25
students studying at the faculties of law of various universities of the
Republic of Armenia participated in the program.
Welcoming the young people, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan noted that the program was a good opportunity to deepen sectoral
knowledge, acquire skills in the field of professional ethics, and build both
professional and personal connections.
“I am
confident that you will use the skills and knowledge you have gained in the
future to form proper understandings of human rights in our environment and to
promote the sector. I am proud that together we were able to go through an
interesting path and record impressive results,” said the Defender.
In
her speech, Ms. Anahit Manasyan also emphasized the importance of cooperation
with UNDP partners within the framework of the Winter School and other jointly
implemented projects.
During
the meeting, the Human Rights Defender referred the protection of the rights of
young people and the importance of their involvement in various processes.
Issues related to the implementation of joint projects were also discussed,
including in the format of cooperation with the Human Rights Defender's Office.
In this context, the graduates of the Winter School shared their ideas as well.
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan expressed her support for developing mechanisms for further
cooperation.
As a
reminder, in December 2024, the Human Rights Defender’s Office of the Republic
of Armenia, in collaboration with the UNDP Armenia Office, launched the Winter
School on Human Rights to deepen the knowledge of university students in this
field.
The
Winter School is implemented within the framework of the program
"Promotion of Human Rights Protection and Strengthening of National
Institutions" funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP, UNICEF and UNFPA.
