students of the Law Department of Vanadzor State University after Hovhannes
Tumanyan, had a study visit to the Lori regional department of the Human Rights
Defender of the Republic of Armenia.
The
purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the activities of the Human
Rights Defender’s Office.
Ms.
Zarine Hovhannisyan, Head of the Lori regional department of the Human Rights
Defender’s Office, presented history of the institution, the Defender's
functions, and the procedure for applying to the Defender.
The
students discussed the Defender's relations with state and local government
bodies and organizations during discussions with them, either initiated by a
complaint or on the Defender’s initiative, the obligation of local government
bodies to support the Defender's activities, and a number of other issues that
are subject to discussion within the framework of the Defender's mandate.
The
meeting was held in a Q&A format, during which students raised various
questions.
Meetings
with students from educational institutions and representatives of
non-governmental organizations at the Human Rights Defender’s Office, including
its regional departments, are ongoing.
