On
April 9, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Ms. Anahit
Manasyan paid a working visit to the Arzni community of Kotayk province, which
is predominantly populated by representatives of national minorities.
Highlighting
the importance of protecting and promoting the rights of national minorities in
Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan conducted a master class on topics related to a
number of fields at the Arzni Secondary School after Sergey Sarkhoshev.
The
event was attended by teachers, students, including representatives of national
minorities from the Assyrian, Yazidi and Russian communities, representatives
of territorial administration and local government bodies.
During
the meeting, Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented the directions of the work of the
Human Rights Defender’s Office, touched upon the rights of children, education,
the peculiarities of the fight against discrimination and intolerance. Within
the framework of the meeting, separate issues were raised, discussing possible
options for their solution. Specific issues were raised and possible solutions
were discussed within the scope of the meeting.
Then,
the Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan met with the head of the Arzni community,
Felix Mirzoev. Issues related to the rights of the community members, including
the rights of national minorities, were discussed.
A
meeting was also organized with the community members on the initiative of Ms.
Anahit Manasyan, at the House of Culture. Various issues related to rights were
discussed. The Defender once again emphasized that the protection and promotion
of the rights of national minorities are one of the important directions of her
work.
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan noted that as the Human Rights Defender, she attaches
importance to ensuring the rights of persons belonging to national minorities
to preserve their identity, guaranteeing the right to preserve and develop
their traditions, religion, language and culture, as well as the active
involvement of national minority communities in public life.
Accompanied
by the community head, the Defender also visited the St. Mary's Assyrian
Church.
At
the end of the visit to Arzni, Ms. Anahit Manasyan noted that the issues she
recorded, as well as those raised by members, will be studied by the Human
Rights Defender Office in order to find ways to address and resolve them.
