It is necessary to consider the challenges encountered in
life as an opportunity and move forward, adhering to one's own values,
principles of professional ethics and professionalism.
On May 22, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
participated in a discussion organized by USAID/Armenia dedicated to increasing
the role and involvement of women.
During the panel discussion entitled "Women leaders
in the field of justice: building justice through the inclusion of women",
Anahit Manasyan presented the stereotyped approaches to the role of women in
our society. Guaranteeing equal opportunities, ensuring women's involvement in
the decision-making process, promoting women's potential in social and
political life are among the challenges in the field of human rights protection
not only in Armenia, but also in the whole world. In this context, the Defender
stressed that overcoming the mentioned problems in forming a proper system of
human rights protection is of key importance.
Anahit Manasyan told the students about her own experience,
the path she took, the stereotypes and the obstacles she encountered.
"There are many stereotypical and discriminatory
approaches to the role and perceptions of women in our society. I myself faced
them during my activity, I was also targeted as a woman. I think that it is
necessary to openly talk about these problems and try to overcome them, holding
public events and discussions, overcoming stereotypes through education, human
rights education reforms, working with parents, increasing professionalism. I
think these are the main factors that will help to overcome the existing
problems in this area and form an effective system of human rights protection",
stated the Defender.
At the end of the meeting, the Human Rights Defender
advised the students to consider the challenges encountered in life as an
opportunity and move forward, adhering to their own values, professional ethics
and professionalism principles.
