On
March 13, the regular session of the Public Council on Children's Rights
Protection adjunct to the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia took
place.
Ms.
Lilit Aghajanyan, the head of the Children's Rights Protection Division of the
Convention Mandates Enforcement Department of the Human Rights Defender of the
Republic of Armenia and Mr. Artyom Sedrakyan, the Senior Project Officer of the
Council of Europe (CoE) delivered opening remarks.
During
the meeting, CoE consultant Ms. Kristine Asatryan presented the standards of
CoE for the protection and promotion of children's rights "Youth
Empowerment and Leadership Communication for Children".
A
discussion on children’s rights was held in a Q&A format, within the
framework of which, after an introduction and exchange of ideas, Human Rights
Defender consultant Mr. David Martirosyan presented to the council members the
issues related to ensuring the best interests of the child, ensuring an
accessible environment for children with disabilities, and preventing,
identifying, and responding to all forms of bullying and violence in
schools.
During
the session, the issues recorded in the framework of the annual report of the
Human Rights Defender and the upcoming programs of the Council, and the actions
to be taken were also discussed.
The
Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasizes
that the participation of children in various processes, including
decision-making processes, is of exceptional importance.
