On the fourth day of the monitoring visits to the border villages of Tavush province, the Defender, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan, and the representatives of the Office of the Human Rights Defender visited the "Ijevan" branch of the "SOS Children's Villages" Armenian Charity Foundation, where the Defender and the representatives of the Defender’s office conducted monitoring and got acquainted with the educational issues, development programs and living conditions of the children under alternative care of the organization.
During the meeting, the Defender was interested in the means by which the organization implements the principles of transparency and accountability of its activities. Then, the concrete approaches to ensure the best interest of children in the care center, details of care services, and the work with beneficiaries in crisis situations were discussed.
Proceeding with the meetings, the Defender and the representatives of the Defender’s office held a number of meetings in the Tavush regional subdivision of the Office of the Human Rights Defender, as well as the reception of citizens, was carried out.
First of all, the Defender met with the family members of the missing persons, and concrete actions were outlined within the Defender's mandate regarding the issues raised.
Afterward, a discussion was held with the representatives of NGOs operating in Tavush province, which deals with the issues of children, young persons, and persons with disabilities.
It should be noted that the latter raised a number of issues regarding the lack of adaptations for persons with disabilities in the community, as well as the realization of the right to education for children and young persons and the provision of a cultural environment.
