A person’s disability
should not be a cause of stigma. They should not be deprived of the opportunity
to feel a complete member of society.
The International Day of
Persons with Disabilities symbolizes the fundamental need to create real
opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Disability, whether
visible or not, is not a verdict. Perception of a person should not be shaped
by their disability. Instead, the dignity, abilities, and skills of each person
should be evaluated. The state must create an accessible environment for
persons with disabilities, and promote the development of independent living
skills.
Issues faced by persons
with disabilities are often the result of misinformation or discrimination by
state bodies or officials. The involvement of persons with disabilities in the
decision-making process both in all spheres of life, as complete members of society,
and complete citizens of Armenia.
The Human Rights
Defender, as an independent body monitoring the implementation of the
provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,
will continue to pursue the implementation of the mission to protect the rights
of persons with disabilities.
