The
Coordinator of the National Preventive Mechanism Implementation - Head of
Department for Prevention of Torture and Ill-Treatment of the Office of the
Human Rights Defender Dr. Laura Kasparyan developed a training manual for the
general medical staff of the “Prison Medical Center" SNCO on the specific
health issues in the penitentiary institutions.
The training manual was prepared in the
context of the Strengthening health care and human rights protection in prisons
in Armenia project of the Council of Europe.
In
the manual, special attention is paid to management of the refusal of food by
persons deprived of liberty, provision of psychiatric care and service, medical
ethics and patient care in penitentiary institutions.
The
training manual also includes a two-day training methodology and agenda, which
envisages training of the medical staff of "Penitentiary Medicine
Center" SNCO in the near future.
