The Human Rights Defender has started
the monitoring of the situation with regard to domestic violence during the
State of Emergency period.
Reason for comprehensive monitoring is
that the restrictions imposed during the State of Emergency increase the risk
of violence in the family. In this respect, women, children and the elderly are
the most vulnerable groups.
In particular, the Human Rights
Defender's Office has received 7 hotline calls. All the calls concerned
violence against wives and children by husband. On the other hand, this figure,
of course, does not reflect the real picture, as the victims of domestic
violence prefer not to raise such cases.
According to the Human Rights
Defender’s position, especially for those who have been subjected to violence
during the State of Emergency, all necessary remedies for the protection of victims’
rights and support services (health, social, psychological, etc.) should be
available and accessible.
The Human Rights Defender’s has made a
call on victims of domestic violence to submit the complaint to the office
through the following phone numbers: 116 or 096-116-100 operational 24/7.
